Ugh! Monday again

Seriously going to miss my 3 day weekends, this weekend went way too fast and didn't get a whole lot done.

I did manage to whip up a batch of homemade oatmeal cookies:

Oatmeal cookies

Serious yummage. Going to have to make more soon.

Went to the drag show on Saturday night. Hubby was designated river and we took a friend. Had a nice time, the acts were great. Tried out my new camera on several different setting (sports and party). Definitely need more practice taking photos indoors, esp with the people are moving a lot.

Had one pic that didn't come out very well, so I decided to play with Gimp to see what I could do with it. The pic was at extreme zoom and rather dark. I played with the brightness and contrast and then ran it thru several different filters. Tried it first with the cubism filter, didn't quite care for it, then tried the oil painting filter. Came out pretty cool (at least I think so):

Dinner last night was roasted chicken. I split the chicken in half, seasoned it with seasoned salt and Johnny's garlic seasoning with a sprinkle of white balsamic vinegar. Still have half of it for dinner tonight.

Woke up freezing this morning and I had closed up the house last night (well, the kitty window was open, but that has heavy fabric covering it). May have to look at making the kitties come in at night and closing that, but I am a little reluctant to as Tigger is still being a very shy kitty and I don't want him to think he is getting locked out. Have to redouble my efforts to get him to come in while we are up and about.

I am so not ready for cold weather, I hope things warm up a bit for a while longer. I don't want to have to start sealing up the house this early in the year.

Fun with Gimp

Snapped some pics of a Praying Mantis yesterday and ran one of them thru Gimp to punch the color:

It got a tad bit dusty yesterday

Winds kicked in to overdrive yesterday and I think they blew half of Washington state our way. After work we hit a spot above Moscow I like to go to to get pictures.

Here is a view of Moscow:

Yes, the town is down there. Here is a zoom view:

Looking towards Moscow Mountain:

Trust me, the mountain is out there somewhere.

Great view to the west with the sun:

The winds licked up a fire over in Whitman County, haven't heard if there were any in Latah County. Thankfully the winds have pretty much gone away and the weather is a bit cooler, so with luck they can get a handle on all the fires in the Inland Northwest that started.

WHEW!

School is back in session and it has been a busy week at work, not too mention back to my regular workday schedule.

Going to seriously miss my 3 day weekends, but now is time to save up my annual leave again so I can take them again next summer.

In the meantime I'll have to squeeze all the stuff I haven't done yet into two day weekends and hope the weather holds long enough to get things like finishing painting the trailer, shed and Da Odder Boat:

Da odder boat

Need to pick up more paint. I don't have enough to finish the first coat and will need more for a 2nd. Then I need to finally decided what pattern to paint and get that color.

Haven't been doing too much cooking this week, usually tossing something together for dinner out of whatever I can find in the deep freeze. Need to do a serious inventory of the freezers and the pantry so I can see what I can plan a head of time for a change.

The Tigger project is ticking along. For the most part he only comes in if we are either in bed or he thinks were aren't up and about. He did come in when we were up the other night, so I closed the back window for a while and had him in for a bit so he could get used to being around us a lot more. Had to God gun Scrapper tho, he kept taking a swing at Tigger when Tigger walked by. I made sure Tigger had a nice big dollop of wet food and gave him scritches and then opened up the window again so he could go out.

Still having lots of fun with my camera. More pics forth coming LOL!

Seriously loving my new camera

Been trying out all the different scenic modes it has and playing with all the various exposure and ISO settings.

Got some really cool pics over the weekend. Last night I tried out the night landscape setting:

moonlight

Saturday night I used the food mode:

Chicken & noodles

It has an "OMG I NEED TO SNAP A PIC IN REGULAR MODE AND I DON'T HAVE TIME TO FUTZ WITH THE SETTINGS!" button that is an Intelligent Auto mode:

grasshopper

Friday I set it for Film Grain B&W with the ISO set for 1600:

tiptop

And Thursday on the way home I went for straight black and white:

There is still more fun settings to play with.

SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

The hubby surprised me after work today:
lumix
I've been needing a new point and shoot camera, my poor old Nikon Coolpix is ailing. We'd gotten a coupon book from Costco the other day and they had the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20 on sale. We'd planned on looking at it then next time we went to Costco, but in the meantime we'd looked it up on the web and found favorable reviews. So my sneaky hubby went an bought me one. I am so loving it. It has lots of great features and will a good replacement for my Coolpix and I can save up for the DSLR camera I would like to eventually upgrade to (once I figure out which one. SO many cameras, so little money LOL!). One of the fun features is being able to shoot in black and white:

Managed to get some nice pics of Phoebe, who is a very hard kitty to get pictures of (unlike Rum Tum):

I can't wait to try all the other features and settings and see what I can do with it.

Sniff!

My last 4 day week, then back to a full schedule. I am going to seriously try and enjoy my last 3 day weekend for a while.

No big plans tho. Still need to get started on painting the new boat. We sold the old boat last weekend, so no more tiger striped boat. It is going to a good home tho. I am still planning on trying for a snow leopard pattern for the new one. At the very least I want to get the primer coat on it.

My tallest corn plant (a whole 2.5 feet) has tasseled. The rest of the plants, which got no taller then a foot or so have also started to tassel. Not sure if I will be getting anything off any of them. We'll see. Talked it over with the person who gave me the seedlings and we are thinking they might not have liked the transplant. I'd layered in some compost at the beginning of the growing season, but it doesn't appear to have helped. I think next year I will see about starting my own seedlings AND try direct seeding to see which will work better.

Also going to see about making my own fish fertilizer from the leftover bits of any fish I catch. I'll see about saving all the leftover fish bits and stash them in the deep freeze for next year. I do have some catfish bits left from the big batch a friend had given me. I'd thawed it to get fillets for the formal dinner we did a while back and then I refroze what was left. I think that will be destined for the garden. I'm thinking a nice dollop of fish paste in each hole and then a corn seed or seedling ought to give them a good start.
