Almost there

  • Mood:
4 day weekend coming up. I hope the weather cooperates a bit, I really want to get some outside stuff done or at the very least get out and do some geocaching. Supposed to freeze tonight, so glad I don't have any plants outside I need to worry about.

My 1st 3 day weekend was nice. Got quite a bit done, including 3 new pins for my Etsy shop:

new pins

Organized my crafts bins better and started breaking down more components. Will be working on more pieces this weekend. Also added my red-wing black bird picture to more items in my Zazzle shop

Things are going well on the new kitten front. Currently his full name is Il Gatto Zoom Zoom the Other ginger kitty. He discovered yesterday that he REALLY doesn't like heavy rain LOL! He seems to be starting to figure out hunting. Saw him stalking a bug the other morning. Phoebe has pretty much settled down in his presence, as has Rum Tum. Scrapper pretty much ignores him as long as he does't get too close.

Been trying out that oil pulling technique for teeth and gums. Taking a lot of getting used to, managed to work my way up to almost 10 minutes. The trick so far is to avoid using too much coconut oil, when it is solid it is easy to use too much.

Getting more acquainted with my phone. Hubby loaded a new desktop interface on it called Atom. Quite like it and my phone is better organized for me to find thing. First screen is stuff I use ever day, 2nd screen is all my games and 3rd screen is all my news and weather apps, at least so far, things may change around a bit as i go along, but it is nice to have info at my finger tips when I am away from my computers.

Speaking of computers, hubby finally got mine updated with a newer version of Ubuntu and fixed it so I can actually do things. Seems my one hard drive was on the verge of puking, so that is where a lot of the problems I was having with it.

FRIDAY!!!!!

  • Mood:
At least for me, tomorrow starts my summer of 3 day weekends.

Survived the root canal, it was so not like I was expecting based on all the horror stories I'd heard growing up. So next up is to save money for a crown.

Need to finish up a piece I am submitting for a local program looking for vehicle sticker designs. With luck Hippie Dippy Hippie will be gracing cars in the area this summer. Still have to mount the physical piece and finish prepping the digital version and get it on a CD. Everything is due tomorrow by 5 pm.

Il Gatto Zoomie discovered today what happens if he doesn't come in when we go to bed. He was NOT a happy kitten when I opened the door this morning. Don't think he was too terribly thrilled about being stuck outside all night. He was a serious cuddle bunny when he finally settled down after his breakfast.

The other kitties still aren't too happy, but they are settling in okay with him around. Once we can get the back kitty door open thing should settle for once and for all.

Hope to get out for a bit this weekend to take photos. Hubby thinks he spotted a Golden Eagle in the neighborhood. If it is, I REALLY want to get a pic.

Aw crap!

  • Mood:
Went to the dentist today for my usual checkup and cleaning. I did get teased for practicing dentistry without a license (my inner 5 year old and I worked the one loose tooth out) and was informed that the tooth I broke was either going to have a root canal and crown or be extracted. Seems it broke clear up into where the nerve is, tho it doesn't really bother me. But there is also a slight infection, so gotta do something.

Was planning on just having it pulled, but by the time I made it to the front desk opted for the root canal and hope I beat the odds and actually keep the tooth (my mom usually loses any teeth she has a root canal on and I really dislike paying money only to have it not last). If I have it pulled, that leaves a big gap there, and I can't afford a partial or replacement as is.

So I get to have fun tomorrow morning. Eventually will see about a crown in it and another tooth, but they are pretty pricey.

In the meantime will see about a mouth guard since half the reason I am missing a few molars is I grind my teeth like crazy when I sleep. Also get a water pic and I am looking into oil pulling to see if that will help any. I've a big container of coconut oil for cooking, so will give it a try.

OW! OW! and I hate Mondays :P

  • Mood:
So Monday morning, school is over and I am on my summer schedule which means 8-5 (too danged early to get up, but the extra hour in the evening to do things is nice) and Fridays off (YAY!!!!!!!).

It was not a quiet weekend. We finally got around to replacing the pranged left front fender on my van with one we picked up at the bone yard in Lewiston. Pics later, but suffice to say, it took two days, only a little yelling and amazingly enough, no divorce proceedings!!!!!

Sat we got everything dismantled, tho the Chilton's was abysmal as we have the Grand Voyager Special Edition and the manual doesn't cover that. Found lots of things that had to come off in order to get to the fender that were't mentioned in the book. Got too hot on Sat, so left it unassembled and got up early Sunday to finish it. Started about 8, finished about 2:30. This involved buying some new tools, bolts and whatnot and then having the neighbor help with putting the hood back on (one of the things that they didn't say had to come off, but did). But all that work took a toll on my and things hurt that I never thought could hurt.

Next step, painting it in zebra stripes!

Didn't do much by way of cooking. Sat we went to a friends for her son's graduating from kinder.... er, from college. Needless to say, she'd laid on a feast. Yesterday we went to the neighbors for their Mother's Day BBQ. After all the work we were doing on the van the last couple of days, not having to cook was a good thing.

Gato is settling in real well. Sat he got to go in and out of the house all he wanted. The other still have their noses out of joint, but they are slowly getting better.Really do need to finish replacing the back door so we can install a proper kitty door. We've the door, just need to cut it down and cut in a kitty sized hole. Maybe this next weekend.

So looking forward to Friday.

Meet Gato

  • Mood:
Our new fur kid. He came to live with us last night and so far, so good. Scrapper seems to be more or less taking it into stride, Phoebe is a neurotic mess (as usual) and Rum Tum came in this morning, took one look, hissed and went back out the door.

Going to be an interesting week!

Gato

He is currently a serious wiggle puppy, so trying to get a good pic is going to take a while.

Even caught one heading for the water:

The long lens on my camera really helped. There was no way in heck I was going to go in close to the island, not with several mommies and daddies giving us the evil eye while we were 15-20 from the island. LAST thing I wanted was to be dive bombed by pissed off geese!

I get some really great shots now:

This is a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk that lives in our area. He loves to sit on top of the telephone poles and swoop on unsuspecting mice. He also likes to race us on occasion as we head into town LOL!

Still working on getting really good photos, I am now currently wanting an even better long lens.

I've learned a new birdie!

  • Mood:
Actually learned about a bird I've never seen before, esp out at Spring Valley Reservoir. We went out fishing yesterday (we scored 4 rainbow trout and 4 blue gill. 2 trout went to my neighbor and I had a VERY yummy dinner last night) and I ended up taking about 3 gigabytes of photos!!!!!!! There are a number of pairs of nesting Canada geese with their fuzzy babies on the island, so had to circle it a couple times. Still working on those photos.

But I saw this one bird I had never seen before:

wadingbird01

It is an American Avocet (thank you people of the water birds Flickr group where I found a pic which identified said bird) and I don' thtink I have ever seen one out there before. But it is a very pretty bird:

Not to mention, flexible!

I am going to have to get my hands of a good bird book to take with me when I go out.

WOOOO HOOO!!!!!!!!!!

FRESH FISH FOR DINNER!!!!!!

Will take my cameras and with any luck get some pictures of the bald eagles (hopefully they are there this year) and other wildlife out there.

Did snap off a nice pic of some of my tulips that have bloomed in my front flower bed:

I am really liking the camera on my phone.

Going to work on the flower bed this weekend, need to get the old fence posts my neighbor snagged for me in place to help define the bed a lot more and raise it a bit.
